Six school prefabs in Mayo have been rented out for at least 10 years or more, the cost of which runs into thousands, according to information revealed by Fine Gael spokesperson on Community, Rural and Gaeltacht Affairs, Deputy Michael Ring.

Ballina Fine Gael councillor Michelle Mulherin is to become a full member of the Committee of Regions. This is a committee of the European Union which has to be consulted by the European Commission and the EU Council in regard to matters of local and regional authorities.

A total of €153, 216 has been paid out by Roscommon primary schools for the rental of prefabs in the last four years, according to local TD Denis Naughten.

Fine Gael Leader Enda Kenny TD has criticised the Fianna Fáil/Green Government for what he calls “their reckless approach to job security and creation” as Mayo’s unemployment figures went through the roof over the past two years. The figures obtained from the Minister for Social and Family Affairs for January 2007 shows 4,760 people signing on in the county. This is compared to 12,114 in September 2009 and demonstrates the seriousness facing a substantial part of Mayo’s population.
